How To Prevent users from Creating Projects in Harbor registry

Posted on 164 views

By default, logged-in users in Harbor registry can create projects. This can be a mess in uncontrolled environments with hundreds to thousands of users. I find it more apt to restrict standard users from creating projects and delegate this task to the SysAdmin team.

In this blog post, we will talk about how you can prevent users from creating projects in Harbor registry dashboard. This is a simple task which doesn’t require any prior knowledge of Linux, containers and registry administration.

You need to have created Harbor registry before you can proceed. We have a guide which you can follow along to install and configure Harbor registry on Linux.

Prevent users from Creating Projects in Harbor registry

Login to Harbor as Admin user and navigate to Configuration > System Settings

Select “Admin Only” under Project Creation dropdown, and Save the changes.

Before the change, all logged-in users could create projects.

Re-login and notice there is no “NEW PROJECT” button.

You have successfully disabled users from Creating new Projects in Harbor registry. You can create a project and grant users access manually.
